Machine Embroidery Portraits – Beginner

Have you ever considered working from a photograph or drawing that you would like to turn into an embroidered portrait? Well now is your chance!

This exciting new workshop will start with how to interpret your photograph or drawing into a line drawing that you can then trace onto fabric.  You will learn the technique of tracing a drawing onto the fabric,  Hooping up and stabilising your fabric so that it is ready to machine stitch, as well as using Applique techniques if you would like to add some more colour/texture by overlaying fabrics on your drawing and then stitching over them.   Once your design is ready your will then use machine embroidery to secure everything in place and complete your artwork.

 About your tutor -

Louisa, a full-time textile artist, kit and pattern maker is passionate about using sustainable materials and loves experimenting with pattern and texture. She runs Stitch Happy an online business selling her wares, sending out kits all over the world from a rural studio in the Warwickshire countryside. She is proud to have her Kits stocked in the likes of Selfridges, Anthropologie, The V&A, The Eden Project, Love Crafts, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Ashmolean Museum as well as many lovely small independents.  She regularly writes tutorials for and has been featured in many publications including Making Magazine, Mollie Makes, Love Embroidery, The Observer Magazine, Real Homes, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire,  Ideal Home and Crafts Beautiful. Louisa has a lifelong love of creativity and from an early age could be found sticking together loo rolls at her kitchen table, these days she is often found in her garden singing badly whilst tending to her veg patch

We look forward to seeing at The Makers' Space in Longbarn Village, Alcester Heath, Alcester, B49 5JJ
